Avoid Medicare Open Enrollment Scams

Medicare-Part-DYour phone rings and someone on the other end says you must join their prescription plan or you’ll lose your Medicare coverage.  Or you receive an email claiming they need your Medicare number to update your account, get you a new card, or send you Medicare benefit information.

Don’t believe it.

The Medicare prescription drug plan (also known as Medicare Part D) is voluntary and does not affect your Medicare coverage.

Plan representatives are not allowed to ask you for payment over the phone or online.

Only give personal or financial information when you have verified who you’re talking to. So, how do you know you are speaking to a “REAL” representative?

YOU make the call to 1-800-MEDICARE.

Information provided by the Denver District Attorney Office.
